Korean skin care is all the rage these days.. but is it worth the hype?

Last year I saw so many Korean influencers raving about how the skin care products from their country were the best in the game. There were so many ingredients they were listing that I had never heard of, or even seen in the typical products you’d find in the UK.

I was instantly overwhelmed by all of these products, what they were good for and when I should be using them. So I did what most people do and followed a bunch of influencers who would use Korean skin care products in their routines. I spent months comparing reviews between influencers, seeing the results of the long-term use and figuring out if the product they used was for my skin type.

To preface I have dry and sensitive skin – a difficult combination. My T zone is always extremely tight if I have no skin care applied to it, but I have to be careful with what I put on my cheeks as a lot of products make them turn bright red and sting. I have always found that typical drugstore brands like Nivea, Simple and Garnier would destroy my skin barrier. My face would be painful and people would always point out how red my cheeks were. It has been quite the journey trying to navigate what my face can and can’t handle, not to mention a lot of money figuring it out!

Over the last few years I had gotten by simply ordering products from Cult Beauty. I would research brands on Google and TikTok as well as read the reviews left on the website. I have found some staples that I will always use, however I knew my dry skin needed more than what it was currently getting and there was no way I was going to pay £90 for the top skin care products with the risk of not being able to use it due to sensitivity. I thought to myself, there has to be something else out there… cue the Korean influencers.

Like magic, when I was in need of a skin care refresh, I was inundated with Korean skin care products all over my feeds. Was this the answer to bettering my skin health?

I can say now, after months of trialling some products, it definitely was!

So without further-ado here is what I swapped my previous skin care staples for 👇

Yep, that’s right I only swapped out one thing – I did however add a bunch of new skin care items to my existing staples. The first time I came across double cleansing was a few years back when I was browsing the pixi section of the store and came across their double cleanser. It isn’t the only double cleanser I have tried, but it certainly was the one I saw the most results with and became my go-to for double cleansing. I do still love this product, and if Korean skin care is not your thing I 100% recommend purchasing this one. It is totally worth it and you can grab it here.

You might be asking yourself, if I love it and recommend it so much why did I swap it out. Simply because the Anua Heartleaf cleansing products just make my skin feel much more cleaner. One of my biggest concerns is visible pores, it can be really difficult to clear out my pores and with the Anua duo I feel like it does the job slightly better.

Now my favourite part is all the incredible products I’ve added to my night-time routine. They each have their own benefits and I’ll be doing a post soon on my skin cycling routine which will talk about why I use each product and what they do for my skin. If you can’t wait for the post and are curious to see what has been added to my night routine check out my Korean skin care guide here.

Transitioning to Korean skin care has definitely been a game changer for me. It is 100% worth the hype and my skin has never looked better! There will obviously be some products that won’t work for you, or give you the results you are after, so make sure you do thorough research before jumping in and feeling disappointed.

I’d love to know if you’ve tried any products that you love and have become your staples so leave a comment below with what they are!
